About Explore and Learn Online

My Name is Valerie Young and I am an elementary school teacher. I created this website with the intention of helping teachers find effective online resources. We all enjoy using interactive tools in our classrooms but it can be very time consuming to search for educational websites that are effective in creating successful learning experiences for our students. My goal is to cut down on those hours of searching for teachers and to provide a 'one stop shop' for efficient online teaching resources.

All links on this website have been thoroughly reviewed. They have been chosen, among all other educational websites, as the most effective online resources. My mission is to help teachers create an effective learning environment in their classroom by providing them with resources that can be easily and efficiently integrated in the inclusive classroom.

Many of the chosen websites are great for the inclusive classroom because they offer lessons and games that are suitable for different grade levels. Students can be on the same website while working on different skills and at different levels. Students can use these websites in a variety of different ways. They can be used in center activities, as extension activities, during free time, or with the whole class in the computer lab. Although our students are usually very independent when they are in front of a computer, it is important that we make sure these sites are not used as a ‘keeping the kids busy’ tool. Students should be supervised by a teacher, or adult, in order for the websites to be effective learning tools.

I hope teachers, parents, and students will benefit from Explore and Learn Online,

Valerie Young

Who can benefit from this website?

You will find that there is something for every grade level. The websites featured here can be used for whole-class instruction, remedial lesson, struggling learners, and/or second language learners. For now, links are all geared toward reading instruction. I will soon be adding links for math and science education too!

Technology in the Classroom

Kids today are so involved with technology in their everyday lives that it only makes sense to incorporate it in our daily lessons. It is a great way to engage our students in their learning experiences. Technology in the classroom creates a new type of learning environment which includes active participation, motivation, and success!
